The Standard Men’s Shop opened in May of 2014. If I am being candid,
there was no business plan to refer to, I “closed my books” on post-it
notes each night, but despite all that I lacked, I never imagined an
outcome in which the shop wasn’t successful. I believe that the haircut
is only a tiny part of a successful haircutting experience. I knew that the
answer was in the details, in not cutting corners, and that people would
come back if you made them feel cared for. And so that’s what I did. I
asked questions, I listened, and cut great hair along the way, but mostly I
created relationships. Men are underserved in the grooming industry.
Their services are often mediocre and more of a chore than a luxury.
This shop changes that for men. This is an hour every month where you
are the only client in the room. You get to show up for your
appointment and never wait because your time is valuable.
When you
sit down, you’ll be made a beverage of your choice. Try the Old
Fashioned; people love it. You can feel free to change the Sonos or TV to
whatever you want to watch or listen to. Please enjoy a neck and
shoulder massage while discussing what you want and what’s realistic
for your at-home routine. Then we always shampoo after the haircut
because no one wants to go back to the office itchy, covered in little
hairs. So sit back, relax under the hot steam towel and enjoy the scalp
massage. We all know that’s the best part. Finally, before you depart,
you’ll be given a homemade chocolate chip cookie that was baked
during your appointment. You’ll want to turn it down, but you shouldn’t.
They’re too good. The Standard Men’s Shop is the experience you never
knew you needed and didn’t realize you were missing.
So come on in. I
can’t wait to meet you.
